May 7: Free Organ Recital

May 7 2011 5:00 pm

Mr. Philip Hoenig of Hoenig Organ Co., Fort Madison, Iowa, recently completed the restoration of the historic 1912 Wicks Pipe Organ of St. Rose. This is the only one of its kind in Quincy and among the few still in existence and in use. It is a 16-rank Tubular Pneumatic with 914 pipes.

On Saturday, May 7, at 5:00pm, Mr. Hoenig will present the instrument and play 15 different pieces from J.S. Bach, William Herschel, William Selby, B. Yarnold, Emile Pessard to J. P. Verpeaux as well as his own compositions. Accompanied by Bob Northurp (trumpet) & Charlotte Stroot (flute).

St. Rose of Lima Church is a historical landmark of the City of Quincy. Its cornerstone was laid on May 7, 1911, and the church was dedicated on June 12, 1912. Although the parish of St. Rose of Lima ceased to exist in 2005, the church is still used for Catholic Public Worship. It is the place of worship of the Latin Mass Community of Quincy established in 2008 by the Bishop of Springfield.
